Seafood Pirates is a seafood soup stall run by Darren Teo and a partner. It is one of the more well-known stalls at Yishun Park Hawker Centre with a celebrity status of sorts, having appeared in various news media as well as covered by major food blogs.
In tune with their stall's pirate themed name, their soups are cleverly named as Pirate's Ultimate, Pirate's Signature, Pirate's Treasure and Pirate's Catch.
Each of these are served with a different combination of seafood such as crayfish, prawns, fish, clams, oysters and fish roe ball in a soup base made with fish bones and chicken bones.
As I am having the Ipoh curry noodle from next door, I decided to leave the soup for another visit. Instead, I will have the oyster omelette rice which I decided to takeaway in case I could not finish it (after having the curry noodle).
As its name suggest, the oyster omelette rice ($3) is white rice buried under a bed of fluffy omelette dressed in a special sweet sauce. Three plump oysters lay hidden within the omelette, like treasures awaiting to be discovered.
If oysters are not your thing, you can have prawn omelette rice or even plain omelette rice. Anyway, the rice are meant as accompaniment for the seafood soup. You can get a better deal if you add on the rice to any soup as a set compared to ordering ala carte like I did.
The white rice is encased within a thin layer of egg that reminds me of omu rice. I appreciate how moist the omelette is without being overly dry. I guess this is something that take lots of practice to perfect.
The oyster is plump and juicy with a clean briny taste without any unpleasant odor. I could still taste the ocean in my mouth as I write this!
Although this is just a very simple oyster omelette rice, there is nothing more comforting than a mouthful of rice with bits of egg. The oyster is an added bonus.
I cannot wait to have it again, this time with a bowl of soup.

Yishun Park Hawker Centre have developed its own app called the "Tuck Shop" that allow customers to make cashless payments.
Download the app to your mobile phone, top up your account with credits via the machines at the hawker centre and you can now pay for your meal by scanning the QR code on your screen with the scanner at the respective stalls.
You will receive both a hard copy receipt from the hawker and a digital one in your app. You will also be able to check your past transactions and monitor the credits you have left in your account.
The price for this meal is $3 (+30¢ for takeaway container) but I realized I did not have enough credits left after paying for the curry noodle hence I paid cash. Otherwise, I could enjoy 10% off simply by using the Tuck Shop app.
