Despite her name, Ying Ji Wanton Noodle located on the third floor of Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre has a lot more to offer other than wanton noodle.

Also on the menu are fried wanton noodle, chicken feet noodle, mushroom shredded chicken noodle, curry chicken noodle and the focus of this review - curry mutton noodle.

I think it is rather unusual to find curry mutton noodle at a wanton noodle stall therefore, I decided to order a regular plate ($4/$5) to try.

I have not eaten curry mutton noodle before so I am intrigued by how it is like. I had imagined it to be exactly like how curry chicken noodle is served in a bowl of curry broth with yellow egg noodle, potato and mutton.

On the contrary, it is served semi-dry in a plate of mee kia and mutton with curry ladled over. It was not what I had expected but it does looked good!

Help yourself to the free-flow of crispy pork lard from the tub in front but do be considerate. The customer before me scooped so many that it blanketed the noodle underneath from sight! This kind of people seriously spoil the market!

The curry is not the lemak kind with coconut milk. In fact, I think there is no coconut milk involved at all. The complex rempah is savory and packs some heat.

The unique thing about the curry is the addition of whole black peppercorns that gave the curry a peppery taste profile.

The mutton is incredibly tender with no gamey odor. I believed the peppercorns played a part in subduing the offensive smell. The mutton come in cubes but there were two larger pieces with bones that slide off with a slight push.

The mee kia is springy with a delightful bite and pairs really well with the curry.

The bowl of soup that comes with the noodle is rich with the flavors of dried anchovies (ikan bilis).

This plate of curry mutton noodle is really good for me and I do not mind having it again and again. I am surprised that there is not much info about it online. This stall is definitely a hidden gem that has gone under the radar.
