Update: Lee Kheong Roasted Delicacy has permanently closed.

Due to online recommendations, I have come to Lee Kheong Roasted Delicacy at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre for its spare ribs but as the stall had just opened for the day, only the char siew, roasted pork and roasted duck are available.

What a shame it was not ready yet because the photo of the spare ribs that I saw was so succulent looking I wished I could sink my teeth into them right there and then.

After some consideration, I decided to have the char siew and roasted pork rice ($4) instead.

I was probably the first customer of the day hence there is no queue at all. My order came with a generous portion of char siew and roasted pork piled on top of white rice drizzled in sweet sauce which is value for money.

It was mentioned on the signboard that the roasts here are charcoal roasted.

The char siew certainly looked the part; on the outside, it was beautifully roasted with good char and glaze while on the inside, it had a pinkish glow - a testimony to the process it has gone through in the furnace.

Alas, the cut of meat I got was extremely lean with no ounce of fat, making it tough to swallow.

If only my meal come with a bowl of soup or some cucumber slices.

The roasted pork skin had good crackling and come with bit of fats. I ate the lean char siew with the roasted pork to make use of the latter's fat as a lubricant to make the swallowing easier.

As there were far less pieces of roasted pork compared to the char siew, I had to dip some pieces of char siew in the chili sauce or sweet sauce as alternatives.

The charcoal-roasted roasts here are pretty good but next time, I will be sure to ask for 半肥瘦叉烧 instead and hopefully, I can have better luck with that delicious looking spare ribs.
