To be honest, I was drawn to Leong Wei Roasted Delights by its low price. Their char siew rice, roasted pork rice and roasted chicken rice starts from $2. In this economy when everyone is struggling to cope amid rising costs, such affordability is truly a god send.

Kudos to the stall owners for keeping prices affordable to the lower income group.

I guess I am not the only one to feel the crunch; thirty minutes before the stall is due to open at 11.30am, a snaking queue made up mainly of retirees, has already formed.

I joined the queue and ordered a plate of char siew rice ($2) with a bowl of salted vegetable with duck wing soup ($2.50).

My plate of rice comes with a generous portion of char siew drenched in their sauce.

The portion is really filling and for only $2, I really should not have any complains but I find the char siew rather lean and dry. Perhaps I should have requested for a fattier cut.

It has been an awfully long time since I last had salted vegetable with duck wing soup. Ingredients in the bowl included salted vegetable, tomatoes and a whole duck wing.

The sourness from the salted vegetable is on point and it hit all the right spots. It was not too oily either. This is so comforting to have with a bowl of rice on a rainy day.
