Update: Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak has permanently closed.
Today, I will be trying out Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak which is the second nasi lemak stall out of the three located at the Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre. The third stall, called Makan Sutera Nasi Lemak Pandan Rice is closed during this visit.
As it is my first time at this stall, I am clueless about the ordering procedure. I only saw the $3 and $4 pricing pasted on the glass so I told the auntie that I wanted the $4 portion.
She proceeded to ask whether I wanted the chicken wing or chicken drumstick. I opted for the latter.
Then, came the awkward silence.
I am wondering are the rest of the
ingredients fixed or am I suppose to let her know what else I wanted from the
smorgasbord of deep fried items behind the display window.
As if sensing my helplessness, the auntie continued, “剩下的料要参参吗?” (random ingredients for the rest?)
I nod my head.
What I got on my plate, apart from the chicken drumstick, included a slice of luncheon meat, one prawn ball, half a slice of cuttlefish fillet, half a slice of fish cake, a piece of ngor hiang, a thin omelette and some ikan bilis (anchovies). That is a total of EIGHT ingredients!

The fried chicken drumstick seems to be a fresh batch hot off the wok. As I bit into it, my lips were almost burned by the juices within. The meat inside is tender however, the exterior is slightly dry and take a bit of effort to tear off. It is still tasty nonetheless.
The rest of the ingredients, however, did not wow me. I mean, the taste of process food are pretty standard, right?
The highlight for me has got to be the nice and fluffy rice which is very rich with the aroma of pandan and coconut milk.
Their sambal chili is less sweeter and spicier than Xiang Xiang's.
Another thing that I like about this nasi lemak is their larger-than-usual ikan bilis which is crispy and slightly salty.
Even though some of the items are halved, it is still value for money as the portion is very filling.
If you are famished and wanted something affordable to fill you up, this is a good recommendation. In fact, I prefer this stall over Xiang Xiang Nasi Lemak.
