Gao Ji Shu Shi Nasi Lemak is another one of the more popular stalls located at Marsiling Mall Hawker Centre.

I have bookmarked this stall ever since I found out that they were from the Old Woodlands Town Centre Hawker Centre. I believe they may have been around since the 1980s, judging from their very old school signboard.

I opted for the chicken drumstick combo ($4.70) that also come with a fried egg, luncheon meat and crab tempura (imitation crab stick) on top of fragrant coconut rice and sambal chili.

One interesting thing I noticed is that the stall owner will separate the chicken meat from the bone using a pair of scissors and he does it for every customer. This is a nice touch but it also lead to a longer waiting time.

Also, there is already a tray of fried eggs in the window but they will still fry a new one for you. Again, they do this for every single order. You can tell they actually take pride in what they do as every single egg is perfectly fried with a runny yolk.

If I am not mistaken, every fried item is returned to the deep fryer for a brief hot oil bath upon ordering so everything is hot and fresh.

The fluffy coconut rice is served hot with a nice pandan aroma. Only downside is that it is on the bland side.

This is where the sambal chili come in. It is the sweeter type so it is not spicy at all. Simply mix it in with the rice and eat together.

The thing about Marsiling Mall is that it is not very accessible to get to although it is only one bus stop distance away from the temporary Woodlands bus interchange.

The hawker centre is located on the ground level of Marsiling Mall. My observation is that it can get pretty warm and stuffy in there as the ceiling fan circulates the hot air repeatedly. Also, the dim lighting just does not seem very welcoming I prefer the row of tables facing the main road as ventilation is better there.

The shops and supermarket can be found on the second level whereas the third level and above is the multi-storey car park.
