I have bookmarked Phati & Jane Thai Food on my to-eat list for about four years now and it is high time for me to make my way down to Alexandra Village Food Centre to try their food.
As with all Thai food stalls, the plethora of dishes available on the menu is mind boggling.
From set meals to ala carte dishes, one is simply spoilt for choice here.
I eventually set my sights on one of the set meals which comprised of a main dish, a plate of rice with fried egg, a bowl of tom yum soup and a side of mango salad.

For my main dish, I ordered C2 on the menu which is your choice of protein (chicken/pork/beef/seafood) stir-fry with tom yum.
I picked the poultry.
However, they got my order wrong. I was served with C4 where my chicken is stir-fry with oyster sauce instead.
The funny thing is, I did not even realize it until a week later while typing this post. 😅
The main dish is served in a boat-shaped receptacle with a compartment at the back for the mango salad.
Tastewise, I find them too heavy-handed with the oyster sauce but the chicken portion is generous as there were more than half left after I am done with the rice.
As for the mango salad, I am disappointed that it is not sour, salty and spicy enough.
Also, there are no crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. The portion is miserly as well.

The rice portion is just as generous.
I relish in the rice with scoops of the savory oyster sauce drizzled over it.

With hints of lemongrass, lime leaves and coconut milk, the bowl of tom yum soup is too mellow and did not quite hit the spot for me.
Perhaps they adjusted the spice level to suit the local palettes? Unfortunately, I enjoy my tom yum soup with more intense flavors.
Do take note that the soup come with no ingredients except for a very fatty piece of chicken skin which I discarded.
If you prefer something more substantial with your tom yum soup, ordering the ala carte bowl with rice ($6/$8) is probably a better option.
Have your pick between chicken or seafood.
Personally, I find the food portion here value for money but the taste does not suit me.
Surprisingly, they had a good Google rating at 3.7.
Some reviewers reported this stall as "better than the restaurants" and that it "transported them back to Thailand".
I am confused. Maybe I need to go back to check them out again.
