About two weeks ago, I was hunting for murals around Little India (post coming right up) and walking along the five-foot way at Desker Road when my path was obstructed by a newly renovated unit.
I had to step out onto the road to walk around the obstacle. I took a quick glance inside the shop house and realized that it is one of my favorite braised duck rice stall from a rundown coffee shop at 16 Verdun Road (near Sam Leong Road).
I have written about them two years back when they were on the verge of vacating their stall at the previous location. Well, seems like they had found themselves a proper shop to call their own now.
As the shop does not look like it has opened for business yet, I hurried on my way and returned a week later.

The bright and airy eatery was empty when I arrived at 10.50am, with ten minutes to spare till opening hour. I was told to take a seat and it did not take long when the lady boss came over with a stack of white paper and pen to take my order.
I ordered a plate of braised duck rice opting for white rice. Yam rice is available as well. They also serve duck porridge, and a small selection of sambal side dishes like sambal kang kong, sambal tofu, sambal prawns, etc.
The 38-seater eatery began to fill up as more customers turned up.

Actually, what I wanted is a $4 plate of white rice with braised duck meat on top. However, what came instead was a plate of braised duck meat in thick gravy and a bowl of white rice served separately. Including a canned drink, my order came up to $7.50.
I think there is a difference between 「鸭饭一盘」(one plate of duck rice) and 「鸭饭,一个人吃的」(duck rice for one person). The latter refers to a personal set that comes with additional meat which is what I unintentionally ordered.

But it does not matter. There is more meat and more of that delicious gravy.

This very nice dip that goes so well with everything (rice, meat, cucumber) is made up of two components: sambal and vinegar with minced garlic and chopped chili.

After my meal, I went to takeaway a pack ($4) home for my folks to try. I realized that when you pack home, the duck meat was not doused with the yummy thick gravy so it is considerably drier and less tasty.
Also, I am given the sambal but not the vinegar with minced garlic and chopped chili. Without it, something feels lacking.
Therefore, I would recommend to dine-in instead for a better dining experience.
