I have finally gotten the chance to try the fried bee hoon and fried chicken wings that Mr Lee Hsien Loong had personally stood 30 minutes in line for.

It caused quite a stir back then when photographs of the Prime Minister queuing went viral across all social networks.

That was two years ago.

Despite the better business after the Prime Minister's visit, prices remain unchanged. Fried bee hoon is still at a ridiculous S$0.60 per plate and fried chicken wings at S$1.20 each. Other sides like luncheon meat, fishcake, ngor hiang and sausage range from $S0.50 to S$1.

While standing in queue, I noticed that people are buying the fried chicken wings in large quantities. The wings are literally flying off the shelf faster than the uncle could deep fry them! So fast that there is basically no time for the piping hot wings to cool down before they are sold to the next customer.

When a new batch of freshly fried chicken wings is ready, the uncle would cut the drum and wing tip with a pair of scissors. I am not sure if this is to allow the chicken wings to cool faster or for ease of eating. Or maybe it's both?

I ordered three packets of fried bee hoon and three fried chicken wings. Two packets are brought back for the folk's dinner while I had mine on the spot.

As I bit down on the still piping hot chicken wing, I could hear the crunch of the the crispy skin which had a hint of prawn-paste marinade. The meat is tender and I love the meat juices swirling on my tongue. The chicken wing is indeed as good as what they claimed.

The beehoon is a little bland and rubbery

The fried bee hoon, on the other hand, tasted a little bland and rubbery. Maybe it's just me but I think their bee hoon is quite ordinary and nothing to shout about.

Do take note of the new opening hours. Many who blogged about this two years ago are outdated with this piece of info.
