Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee @ Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre

Ah Qing Traditional Lor Mee is a relatively new stall at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre.

Located in the red section right next to Maxwell Haha Mee Siam Mee Rebus, this lor mee stall serves several types of lor mee.

On the menu are fried fish lor mee ($5), ngor hiang lor mee ($3.50), fried chicken lor mee ($4.50) and fried chicken + fried fish lor mee ($6).

You can add on extra ingredients ala carte such as braised egg (70¢), braised pork ($1), ngor hiang ($1), fried chicken ($1.50), and fried fish ($2).

Amoy Street Lor Mee @ Senja Hawker Centre

singapore,food review,amoy street lor mee,senja hawker centre,2 senja close,lor mee,

Bukit Panjang welcomed its second hawker centre - Senja Hawker Center six months ago on 11th December 2022.

With 28 food stalls and 580 seats, the hawker centre features a rooftop garden and a underground car park. Due to the high ceiling and numerous huge fans, the place is kept well-ventilated. Illumination is also optimal.

The tables are comfortably spaced apart due to the huge size area. In fact, it has the potential to add a lot more tables to fully utilize the space if needed.

I actually visited the new hawker centre twice in January this year when they had just opened for a month. Understandably, the place was packed and those who knew me, knows that I hate crowded places. I left without having anything but I made a mental note of the stalls to try.

Update: Tian Tian Lai Lor Mee has permanently closed.

Lor mee is one of my favoritest thing to eat but regrettably, non of the ones from my neighborhood can meet my expectation. As a result, it is a ongoing mission of mine to always be on the lookout for a nice bowl.

When I found out about Tian Tian Lai Lor Mee at Blk 359 Bukit Batok Street 31, I was thrilled since it is not too far from my place.

The last time I wrote about my favorite Bukit Purmei Lor Mee was in February 2016. I was ecstatic then because they have finally reopened a new stall at West Coast Drive after closing down their Bukit Purmei stall due to Uncle Teo's (stall owner) declining health.

Unfortunately, my happiness was short-lived as they closed their business yet again for the very same reason. Since then, I have been seeking solace in Uncle Teo's sister's lor mee stall at Bukit Batok when the crave arises.

The sister's lor mee is not an exact replica of Uncle Teo's version but that is the closest I can get to combat any withdrawal symptoms.

Noodlefellas - Lor Mee @ Beauty World Food Centre

Update: Kopifellas has shifted right next to Noodlefellas. The address has been updated at the end of this post.

Noodlefellas is yet another relatively new stall at Beauty World Food Centre.

Set up by the people behind Kopifellas who took up another stall at another row in the food centre, I am excited to see new entrants setting up business here, injecting new life and vibrancy to the 36 years old premise which narrowly escaped from a acquisition fate just a couple of years ago.

I guess it is a no brainer as to what the two stalls had to offer judging by their names?

Noodlefellas had fish ball noodle, fish ball soup, minced meat noodle, laksa, sliced abalone noodle and my favorite hawker dish, lor mee included on its menu.

There used to be a Ma Bo Lor Mee stall located near my place. I liked their lor mee so much that I would patronized them about two or three times a week. I was devastated when the stall closed. Although there have many outlets across Singapore, I have not had any ever since.

After a hiatus of so many years, I came across an outlet at Hong Lim Market & Food Centre. I decided to relive the taste of the lor mee that I used to adore.

You can have their lor mee in three ways: signature ($2.50/$3.50), with fried battered fish ($3/$4) or fried chicken cutlet ($3/$4). Laksa is also available in the same permutations and pricing. I could not recall if laksa is a new addition to the menu or did they have it all along?

Previously, I would only order their chicken cutlet lor mee therefore this time, I decided to have the fried fish lor mee instead.

Feng Zhen Lor Mee @ Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre

鳳珍鹵麵,singapore,feng zhen lor mee,food review,review,taman jurong market & food centre,lor mee,food,

My last visit to Taman Jurong Market & Food Centre was probably more than two decades ago. I vaguely recall that it is a single-storey food centre then with no market.

The food centre today is a five-storey building after undergoing reconstruction in 2005. It comprises of a wet market on the ground floor while the food centre is relocated to the second and third floor. A car park providing parking facilities took up the remaining two levels on top.

I am here to check out Feng Zheng Lor Mee which is said to serve one of the best lor mee in the West. I have been yearning to give them a try after learning about them years ago.

They have a couple of other outlets all run by family members. I have tried the daughter's stall at Yew Tee and the grandchildren's stall at Clementi and Choa Chu Kang numerous times however, I have yet to try the grandmother's stall here at Taman Jurong.

It has been a while since I last came to Redhill Market & Food Centre.

One of the reasons why I do not frequent this food centre is due to the pigeons flying around which I find very unhygienic but, the main reason still boil down to the fact that I am too lazy to walk over from the MRT station! 😈

So, what made me drag my lazy bones here today is because I was craving for duck noodle and I wanted to try the one from Seng Heng Braised Duck however, they were already packing up for the day when I arrived just before 11am.

I circled the food centre, with the hope to find something that might interest me when I spotted a new Chinese stall which I have never seen before.

The stall is called Shun Li Ah Ma Lor Mee and it sells both lor mee and laksa for $4. I ordered a bowl of lor mee opting for the flat Hokkien noodle. The lady helper asks if I wanted beansprouts and whether I wanted more noodle (at no extra cost).

Ah Choon Traditional Lor Mee @ Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre

I have finally paid my first visit to Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre, a social enterprise food centre run by NTUC Foodfare. Simply turn right after exiting the fare gate at Admiralty MRT station and you will see it on your left. It is located on the second level which is accessible by the escalator or lift.

While checking out the stalls, I spotted one serving lor mee, prawn noodle and laksa. My heart is bent on having the lor mee since it is a perennial favorite of mine. Studying the menu, they have fish lor mee ($3.50), chicken cutlet lor mee ($3.50) as well as signature lor mee ($4) but it is the $2.80 traditional lor mee that caught my attention.

I will not delve into the details of what a social enterprise hawker centre is all about but under contract, every stall is required to offer at least one food item at $2.80 to ensure that food is made affordable for everyone.

I decided to have the $4 signature lor mee instead because I knew that the $2.80 version will probably not satisfy me.

Tiong Bahru Lor Mee @ Blk 155 Bukit Batok Street 11

中峇魯鹵麵,tiong bahru lor mee,singapore,food review,food,review,lor mee, tiong bahru,155 bukit batok street 11,

Ever since Uncle Teo's Bukit Purmei Lor Mee closed down three years ago, I have been unable to find another bowl of lor mee that comes anywhere close to his standard.

I might be biased but that is because I have eaten his family's lor mee since his mother's time at the former Seng Poh Road Market.

When I gotten news that his sister is running a lor mee stall at Bukit Batok, I knew I had to go give it a try.

It is self service here so you order, pay and wait to collect your order. I ordered a $4 bowl and opted for bee hoon. Once my order is ready, I helped myself to the black vinegar, chili paste and cut chili padi placed outside the stall.

Keng Heng (Whampoa) Teochew Lor Mee @ Golden Mile Food Centre

singapore,鹵麵,food review,505 beach road,慶興黃埔潮州鹵麵,golden mile,lor mee,潮州,golden mile food centre,army market,keng heng whampoa teochew lor mee,

The second stall that I wanted to visit at Golden Mile Food Centre is called Tong Ji Mian Shi (桐记面食).

Seriously, can the hawkers from this food centre impress me any further?

First, there is the healthy fried kway teow with heaps of chye sim and now this - lor mee with fried lotus root!

Ooh, it certainly got my attention and I cannot wait to try it.

Unfortunately, I am greeted by a vacant unit (#01-100) with no signboard when I got there.

Thinking that I might have gotten the unit number wrong, I circled the row of stalls a couple of times but it seems they are gone for good.

Thankfully, there is another very popular lor mee stall at the food centre called Keng Heng (Whampoa) Teochew Lor Mee (慶興(黃埔)潮州鹵麵) which have appeared on Makan Places: Lost & Found.

It is also the winner of the 2012 King Of Kings (王中王) award.

Soon Heng Food Delights Lor Mee @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

singapore,tanjong pagar plaza market & food centre,food review,blk 6 tanjong pagar plaza,顺兴美食,lor mee,soon heng food delights,

The one and only item that Soon Heng Food Delights sell is lor mee, a noodle dish of Hokkien origins.

The stall, located on the second floor of Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre used to serve two versions: batang lor mee and fried shark lor mee, with reference to the type of fish used.

I have not eaten their batang version before but I guess it is shredded fish meat whereas the shark meat version is fried shark meat nuggets.

Now, only the shark meat version is available on the menu.

While researching for recommendations at this food centre, I came across photos of this lor mee and I was impressed by the presentation and reviews therefore I decided to include this on my to-eat list.

Update: Wei Nan Wang Hock Kian Lor Mee has permanently closed.

Last year, it was reported in the news that the Golden Shoe Car Park is slated to be demolished to make way for a spanking new 51-storey office tower.

Inevitably, the hawker centre located within the building had to be relocated. This is grim news for many as the hawker centre has been offering affordable food options for those working in the CBD area for the past 33 years.

There is no need for panic though, as the hawkers did not move far - they have simply shifted into a temporary hawker centre just about 200 metres from their original location.

One of the levels in the new office building will be reserved as a food court and once the construction has been completed, the former Golden Shoe hawkers will return.

Hai Tang Lor Mee @ Mei Ling Market & Food Centre

Update: Hai Tang Lor Mee has permanently closed.

About six months ago, I was checking out Mei Ling Market & Food Centre for good eats. I tried the recommended Xin Lu Teochew Fishball Kway Teow Mee and Shi Hui Yuan Hor Fun Specialty which I had already blogged about then. At that time, I also had the lor mee from Hai Tang Lor Mee.

Sadly, the photos for the lor mee did not turn out satisfactory so I had to make a return visit to take the photos again. However, on the day of my visit, the stall was closed and there is a notice on the shutters informing customers that they would be taking a two months break.

This post eventually got pushed down and lay forgotten in the drafts section.

Ah Ma Lor Mee @ Blk 328 Clementi Ave 2

The row of aquarium shops at Blk 328 Clementi Avenue 2 is my to-go-to place for my aquarium supplies.

At the end of the row is a coffeeshop which I have always walked by but never patronize. Who would when the coffeeshop always seemed so quiet and not all the stalls are in operation?

Furthermore, the popular 448 Clementi Market & Food Centre is just a five to ten minutes walk away.

But, little do I know that hidden in the coffeeshop is a lor mee stall called Ah Ma Lor Mee which happens to be run by the third generation of the popular Feng Zhen Lor Mee (凤珍卤面).

I would not have known about them if not for the fact that Ah Ma Lor Mee was among the Top 10 most-voted-for stalls of the Singapore Food Master 2017 competition and it emerges as one of the top 3 in the west zone category.

Shi Ji Noodle Stall - Lor Mee @ Seah Im Food Centre

During my second trip to Seah Im Food Centre, I decided to try out Shi Ji Noodle Stall.

This stall sells duck noodle, prawn noodle, tom yum noodle and lor mee (braised noodle). I decided to go for the lor mee as I was craving for it that day.

It is self-service here. You queue to order your food, wait to collect and pay for your food.

I am pretty much impressed by the generous serving of ingredients in my bowl. There are plenty of ngor hiang (five spice rolls), lor bak (braised meat), fish cake and a certain fried stuff which I was unable to identify.

There is also half a braised egg and topped with minced garlic and coriander. I added two spoonful of black vinegar into the bowl which is the SOP for me.

Feng Zhen Lor Mee @ Blk 787B Choa Chu Kang Drive

I have heard so much about the famous Feng Zhen Lor Mee at Taman Jurong but I have never gotten round to having a bowl of it as the location is rather out of the way.

Imagine my surprise when I found out that they have a second branch at Yew Tee which is so much nearer and convenient to me. Apparently from what I heard, the stall at Taman Jurong is run by the mother while the one at Yew Tee is run by the daughter.

My favorite lor mee is from Bukit Purmei Lor Mee at West Coast Drive but unfortunately, the stall has ceased operations due to the owner's declining health. Since then, I have been unable to find any lor mee that is worthy of its calories.

The Old Bukit Purmei Lor Mee Lost And Found! Reopened @ West Coast Drive!

Update: Bukit Purmei Lor Mee has permanently closed.

By now, you might have already heard about the old Bukit Purmei Lor Mee reopening for business at Blk 501 West Coast Drive.

I was taken aback when I heard the news a year ago that the stall at Bukit Purmei had closed down due to Uncle Teo suffering from a heart attack. However, I am glad that he is back in action again after a year of recuperation.

The current hawker taking over his stall at Blk 109 Bukit Purmei (also selling lor mee) is in no way affiliated with him, as clarified on their FB page. I guess the clarification came about because some customers who did not know about the change of hands thought uncle's lor mee standard has dropped - quite drastically!

Sheng Yi Fa Lor Mee @ Blk 443 Clementi Avenue 3

When I learn about this popular lor mee at Clementi Central, I knew I had to go check it out at Food Loft, a coffeeshop situated along Clementi Avenue 3 near Clementi Town Secondary School.

I ordered the default $3 bowl and when it is served to my table, it came together with the vinegar bottle.

When having this dish, I tend to go over the top with the condiments like garlic and black vinegar because that is how I perceive this dish is to be best enjoyed.

However, there are times when the hawkers' face turned as black as the vinegar when I requested for more.

I am overjoyed that I could add as much vinegar as I wanted here without having the hawker rolling eyes at me!

The Original Tiong Bahru Lor Mee @ Bukit Purmei

Update: Bukit Purmei Lor Mee has permanently closed.

Remember my quest for the original lor mee from Tiong Bahru a few months back?

Thanks to this blog for the clarifications, or I would not have known that the lor mee stalls at the current Tiong Bahru Market are copycats!

The real macoy has shifted to the coffeeshop at Block 109 Bukit Purmei!
