Wen Guang Handmade Fish Ball Noodle @ Blk 505 Jurong West Food Centre

fish ball noodle,singapore,鱼丸面,food review,jurong west 505 market & food centre,wen guang,文光,blk 505 jurong west market & food centre,blk 505 jurong west street 52,

I have blogged about some of the hawker stalls at Blk 505 Jurong West Market & Food Centre a couple of times before like Soh Kee, Long Kee and Kok Kee (yes, that Kok Kee of Lavender fame).

I come to this food centre for breakfast every couple of months and I always stick to the same food choices out of habit.

During this visit, I decide to try a stall which always have a queue whenever I walked past it.

The stall in question does not have a English name on the signboard except for the Chinese characters 文光 (Wen Guang) on it.

This is actually a fish ball noodle stall and their selling point is their handmade fish balls which they got from a certain fishery called da di meng (大弟明).

Eng's Wantan Noodle @ Westgate

Fans of Eng's wantan noodle rejoice!

The famous green bowl wantan noodle has opened an outlet here in the West at Westgate! Apart from their main outlet at 287 Tanjong Katong Road, this is their third shopping mall outlet right after Eastpoint Mall and Ang Mo Kio Hub.

This is certainly good news to me as I already had plans to check them out but have been contemplating due to the inconvenient location. Instead of me going to them, they have now come to me! Saved me the trouble of traveling all the way to the East!

I visited their Eastpoint Mall outlet the week before but it was full with a long waiting queue outside the premises. As I did not have the patience to wait, I left.

On the other hand, this outlet at Westgate have hardly any customers when I visited on a Saturday morning. This latest outlet is only a week old and probably have not drummed up enough publicity with the residents here yet.

Adam Road Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle @ Adam Road Food Centre

singapore, adam road noo cheng big prawn noodle, adam road food centre, prawn mee, prawn noodle, food review,2 adam road

Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle is arguably one of the more popular Chinese stalls at Adam Road Food Centre. This is evident by the long queue in front of the stall everyday.

When I was there at around 11am on a weekday, the stall had already run out of the big prawns for their signature big prawn noodle ($8/$10/$12/$16). Left with the 'normal' prawns, I decided to go for the pork ribs prawn noodle ($5) but they got my order wrong and gave me pork ribs noodle ($5) instead.

The ribs are fine. It is just that I am there specifically to try the prawns hence I am a little disappointed.

Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari Mee Soto @ Adam Road Food Centre

singapore,adam road food centre,singapore botanic garden,food review,mee rebus,selamat datang warong pak sapari mee soto,mee soto,2 adam road,

With reviews touting it as "unbeatable" and "unparalleled" in Singapore, Selamat Datang Warong Pak Sapari Mee Soto & Mee Rebus at Adam Road Food Centre is reputed for serving one of the best mee soto.

Being an ardent fan of this Malay noodle dish, I have to come try it for myself to see whether they really live up to those claims.

I was there an hour earlier before the lunch crowd arrive so there were only a couple of people in the queue which cleared pretty fast. When it came to my turn, I ordered a bowl of mee soto ($3.50) and added a bergedil ($1).

After receiving my order, I scooped two tablespoons of sambal kicap into my bowl for the extra kick.

Yu Kee House Of Braised Duck 友記鹵鴨之家 @ Adam Road Food Centre

duck noodle, singapore, adam road food centre,yu kee house of braised duck, food review,友記鹵鴨之家,braised duck,2 adam road,

I will be upfront with you.

Yu Kee House Of Braised Duck was not on my list of to-eats at Adam Road Food Centre. It is more of an accidental find because I am really there to try Noo Cheng Big Prawn Noodle.

For some reason, the lights at Noo Cheng were not lit. I then turned to another stall, Cheng Ji for its pork leg bee hoon but, the stall is not ready as well.

Am I too early at 10-ish in the morning? It is way pass their stipulated opening hours though.

While looking around for alternatives, my gaze fell upon the row of glistening braised ducks hanging inside Yu Kee. From the menu, the stall serves the usual roasts such as char siew, roasted pork, roasted chicken, roasted duck and braised duck with either rice or noodle.

I find it quite unusual for a stall to offer both roasted and braised ducks. It is either one or the other. I have yet to come across a stall that offers both - until now.

If the stall's name is of any indication, the braised duck here is their specialty hence I ordered their braised duck noodle.

I can't fathom why people would willingly pay a few dollars for maggi goreng at the mamak stall but when I saw this upgraded version that comes with cheese fries and mutton steak, I decided it is time for me to find out why.

This maggi goreng special ($7) from Ibrahim Mee Stall is a real head-turner. From the moment I collected my order to putting it on the table, people passing by would turn their gaze and stare right at it.

Well, who wouldn't? I have not seen anything quite like it myself. There is so much 'drama' on my styrofoam plate screaming for attention!

Over at Adam Road Food Centre, there are a number of stalls selling nasi lemak however, only two neighboring stalls stood out among the rest.

Since it is my first time there, I do not know which is the better one but I decided to go for Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak simply for the fact that they do not serve fried peanuts which I am not very fond of.

The seven options on their menu have interesting names, ranging from "Flash Meal" that consists the very basics like ikan bilis and egg with coconut rice, cucumber slices and sambal chili ($2.90) to the "Royal Rumble" ($5.90) which contained everything they have like fried chicken wing and ikan kuning.

It is not my first time having chicken rice at Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice stall however, it is my first time writing about them.

Just a five minutes walk away from Bukit Gombak MRT station, the coffee shop is pretty close to where I stay so I would drop by for breakfast once every couple of months.

This time, I ordered the sesame chicken rice set at $4, which comes with a bowl of rice, a plate of chicken meat and a bowl of soup. I did not request for a specific chicken part.

It has been ages since I last had mutton soup and I have been craving for a bowl for the longest time.

Since I stumble across Hougang Jing Jia Mutton Soup at Haig Road Food Centre, I decided to have just that.

I was there just after the peak lunch hour ended so there is no queue at all. I am able to walk up to the stall to place my order immediately.

On the menu, they have tendon soup, mixed soup, mutton soup and brain/meatball soup. I opt for the mixed bowl ($6) which had a bit of everything (meat, belly, tendon and ribs except the meat balls and brain).

I am not too adventurous when it comes to food.

Mention Haig Road Food Centre and the famous putu piring comes to mind.

To be honest, I have long heard about it but never tasted one before.

I always wonder what is the difference between the putu piring and the tutu kueh since they look so similar in appearance?

After trying Traditional Haig Road Putu Piring for the first time, I finally know that the Malay putu piring is filled with gula melaka instead of coconut and peanut like its Chinese cousin.

I normally will not visit a food centre at 2pm but since Rosy & Nora opens only at that hour, I had to accommodate to their timing.

I am there to try something new called the "ball kentang" ($3.50).

When I arrived at the stall, there were two ladies - presumably Rosy and Nora themselves - inside busy churning out roti john and deep frying popiah to cater to the demands of the afternoon crowd.

林玉梅砂捞越干捞面,sarawak,sarawak kolo mee,haig road market & food centre,malaysia,lin yu mei,singapore,food review,kolo mee,14 haig road,

I am a bit slow with updates for the month of September because Haig Road Food Centre is too inaccessible for me. It is even further than Golden Mile and I could feel my energy draining simply by thinking about the journey.

Anyway, after two weeks of procrastination, I have finally dragged myself back to the food centre to check out Lin Yu Mei Sarawak Kolo Mee.

My last bowl of kolo mee was way back in 1992, when I was in Kuching. Suffice to say, I could hardly remember how it tasted so it is about time for me to have another bowl now.

Afandi Hawa & Family - Mee Rebus @ Haig Road Market & Food Centre

afandi hawa & family,haig road,singapore,food review,haig road market & food centre,mee rebus,mutton mee rebus,14 haig road,

I am not too big a fan of mee rebus but when I heard that this particular stall at Haig Road Market & Food Centre cooked theirs with shrimps, flower crab and mutton, I am all game to give it a try!

I do not eat mee rebus often, hence I am uncertain if this is the usual way of how the dish is normally prepared but I can imagine the umami-ness coming from all that ingredients!

While I understand the shrimps, flower crab and mutton may be used to flavor the gravy and that they might not really give it to you without additional top-up, I still gave my noodles a thorough toss with hopes of finding a stray piece of mutton.

Other than Zhenguang Wantan Noodles, Kiat Huat Wanton Noodle is another stall offering the same noodle dish under the same roof at Haig Road Market & Food Centre.

However, I noticed that Kiat Huat is the one with a perpetual queue whenever I visit the food centre.

I decided to try them out to see if they are better than Zhenguang Wantan Noodles since they draw a bigger crowd in front of their stall.

Heap Seng Leong @ North Bridge Road

singapore,food review,traditional breakfast,coffee shop,butter coffee,kopi guyu,heap seng leong,協勝隆,bulletproof coffee,blk 10 north bridge road

When I was covering the food stalls at Golden Mile Food Centre recently, I have walked past Heap Seng Leong numerous times while making my way to the food centre.

Despite its dingy-looking facade, the coffee shop is popular for its kopi guyu (butter coffee) which is not very common nowadays due to people getting increasingly health conscious.

I told myself I will make this my pit stop after I'm done with Golden Mile but the opportunity was not there as I would often be too full for anything else after each visit to the food centre.

I have currently moved on to covering Haig Road Food Centre (still in progress) and I thought I will not be visiting Golden Mile anytime soon.

Honestly, I am quite tired of the walking journey from Lavender MRT Station towards Golden Mile as this is by far, my most repeated trip to any food centre no thanks to Mr Baguette

However, as fate would have it, my pre-ordered comic book has arrived thus I had to go pick it up from the comic shop at the nearby Kitchener Complex. Since I will be in the area anyway, I thought I might as well make the trip to the coffee shop.

The old Hollywood Theater would be no stranger to those living in the east. Built in 1958, it has seen some of the biggest movie stars from Hong Kong like Siew Fung Fung, Fong Bo Bo, Chan Bo-chu, Nancy Sit, etc performing live on stage.

Just behind the theater is a canteen called Hin Hollywood Canteen where Zhenguang Wantan (sic) Noodles has been doing business for fifty years.

The area was demolished in 2011 to make way for redevelopment and standing in its place now is the new One KM Mall.

What happened to Zhenguang Wantan Noodles stall then? It shifted across the road into Haig Road Market & Food Centre.

Mee Soto has got to be one of my most favorite Malay food. I will always order it as my first choice without hesitation whenever I come to a Malay stall.

When I decided to check out Haig Road Market & Food Centre, I knew there is a good chance of having my favorite Malay noodle soup since there are plenty of Malay stalls in the food centre.

The question is which stall?

After some googling, I found out that HJ Waliti HJ Mazuki is the one to go to.

Do & Me - Chicken Cutlet @ Blk 654 Yishun Ave 4

singapore,blk 654 yishun ave 4,do & me,food review,chicken cutlet,xxl chicken,western food,多美麗炸雞西餐,

A couple of weeks ago, I learned about this western food stall serving enormous sized chicken cutlet at the coffee shop which is just across the road from Yishun SAFRA.

When I stepped into the coffee shop, the Do & Me chicken logo on the wall seem so vaguely familiar to me. I believe they used to be a franchise with many outlets across Singapore, you know, something like Tenderfresh (可爱鸡)?

I could be wrong though but when I tried googling, I can find nothing about them on the internet.

I was lost in thoughts in front of the logo when I heard the staff behind the counter asking for my order.

"One chicken cutlet" I replied curtly.

After making payment, I was told to collect it in five minutes time.

Located at the basement of the food centre, Mr. Baguette's molten lava balls came in an impressive 15 savory and sweet flavors!

They are:

singapore, food review,505 beach road, teochew bak chor mee, teochew minced meat noodle, golden mile food centre, army market, fei zhu traditional teochew handmade fish ball & mushroom minced meat noodle,

This stall at level one of Golden Mile Food Centre has a very long name. It is called Fei Zhu Traditional Teochew Handmade Fishball & Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle.

Quite a mouthful, isn't it?

It is by far my most favorite bak chor mee (minced meat noodle) at the moment.

Their bak chor mee come in three sizes ($4/$5/$6). For the two larger sizes, the ingredients will be served separately in the soup.

This is actually my second time at this stall. The first time when I had the regular bowl, everything was dumped together with the mee pok while the bowl of soup was a small one.

However, the two larger sizes come with a larger bowl of soup and trust me, the soup is as good as it gets. With the addition of shallot oil and fried garlic, it just make the soup very wholesome and fragrant.

This Hainanese chicken rice stall at the basement of Golden Mile Food Centre has a very straight forward name called Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice. It is located right next to the fried Hokkien noodle stall from my previous post.

Despite the lack of newspaper cuttings and accolades, this unassuming chicken rice stall attracts a perpetual queue everyday which is made up of both locals and tourists.

During my visit on a Saturday afternoon, I queued for about twenty minutes before I reached the front of the line.

The stall offers both roasted chicken as well as poached chicken.

After placing your order, you just have to wait patiently at one side for the staff to call out to you. I stood there for a good twenty minutes before I receive my plate.

Do not be fooled by the stall's name because there is no granny behind the stall at Zhao An Granny Grass Jelly. Instead, it is granny's grandson, Mr Yeo, serving you chin chow (grass jelly) based on her recipe and him fine-tuning it.

Granny began selling grass jelly on the streets after the war as a means to support her family until she retired in 1974.

In 1996, Mr Yeo decided to learn the skills from her and started this stall at Golden Mile Food Centre after leaving his electronics job.

I like Chinese sweet soups but it is not something that I get to eat easily as there were non located near me.

I am glad to have chanced upon this stall called 75 Ah Balling Peanut Soup at Golden Mile Food Centre while I was checking out the food stalls here.

Their star would have to be the peanut soup but apart from that, they also have longan with red dates soup, ginger soup and almond soup.

The soups are selling for only $1.40 a bowl but what if I tell you that you could pair your soup with ah balling or tang yuan (glutinous ball)?

Their ah balling are hand made, and come in flavors like peanut, yam, sesame, matcha and red bean.

Inclusive of soup, you can add on four pieces for $2, five pieces for $2.30 and six pieces for $2.60. You can even mix and match the different flavors.

Ever since I had the braised duck rice with added pig's skin from Cai Ji Boneless Duck Rice at Seah Im Food Centre, I have been unable to put it out of my mind.

Thus, when I saw a braised duck stall at the basement of Golden Mile Food Centre, I quickly went to queue for a plate.

As its name implies, the stall, called Ah Xiao Teochew Braised Duck (亞笑潮洲卤鸭) serves braised duck with either rice or kway chap. They have the usual sides of duck gizzards, Teochew fish cake and braised egg. They also have a small selection of pork belly and pig's skin.

I decided to order a plate of braised duck rice ($3) with additional pig's skin (50¢).

However, I am there mainly for their nasi lemak (fatty rice) and nasi ayam (chicken rice). You may be spoilt for choice here as this two dishes came in many variations!

From the normal chicken drumstick and chicken cutlet to the increasingly popular lobster with salted egg sauce, Adimann is set all out to please their customers.

Update: Burgs By Project Warung has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

The hawker stalls at Golden Mile Food Centre took up the two lower levels of the building. So far, I have covered most of the must-try stalls on the upper floor.

This week, I ventured downstairs to the lower floor where the majority of the Muslim stalls are.

Contender number one on my must-try list here is Burgs, a Muslim-owned burger joint run by three friends with culinary background.

Offering gourmet burgers at pocket friendly prices, I ordered "The Classics" - a cheeseburger at $4.90 which includes a serving of thick-cut fries (top up $1 for onion rings).

The second stall that I wanted to visit at Golden Mile Food Centre is called Tong Ji Mian Shi (桐记面食).

Seriously, can the hawkers from this food centre impress me any further?

First, there is the healthy fried kway teow with heaps of chye sim and now this - lor mee with fried lotus root!

Ooh, it certainly got my attention and I cannot wait to try it.

Unfortunately, I am greeted by a vacant unit (#01-100) with no signboard when I got there.

Thinking that I might have gotten the unit number wrong, I circled the row of stalls a couple of times but it seems they are gone for good.

Thankfully, there is another very popular lor mee stall at the food centre called Keng Heng (Whampoa) Teochew Lor Mee (慶興(黃埔)潮州鹵麵) which have appeared on Makan Places: Lost & Found.

It is also the winner of the 2012 King Of Kings (王中王) award.

Some time ago, photos of a particular char kway teow from Golden Mile Food Centre caught my attention.

What makes it so special is that it is topped with so much green vegetables you could barely see the kway teow (flat rice noodle) below.

I had wanted to try it then but never did due to procrastination. Distance is also a factor as the location is rather out of the way for me. It does not make sense for me to go all the way there just to have a plate of char kway teow.

I finally found a justified reason to brave the long distance there after I collated enough stalls that I wanted to try at the food centre. The first stall that I visited, is of course this stall known as 91 Fried Kway Teow Mee.

"Why 91?" you asked? That is in reference to the stall's unit number, #01-91.

There are two very popular noodle stalls at Crawford Lane and people tend to compare the two together although they are starkly different.

One of them is the famous 1-Star Michelin Tai Hwa Pork Noodle at Blk 466 while the other one is this Teochew Fish Ball Noodle located at Blk 462.

Tai Hwa specializes in pork noodle aka bak chor mee (minced meat noodle) while the other one - the one in this post - sells fish ball noodle even though both contains somewhat similar ingredients like bak chor, meat ball and pork slices.

There isn't much info you can find regarding the stall though I can't say the same for the tze char stall that operates from the same coffee shop at night.

Anyway, I found out about this stall from a friend when she posted a beautiful sui kow (prawn dumpling) on FB. I have never seen a sui kow wrapped this way before so I decided to go see it for myself.

You can simply walk over or take a bus.

singapore,ice cream,durian ice cream,soyummy,mr bean,gula melaka,durian,

So, I was at Yew Tee Point a week ago when I saw this banner in front of Mr Bean.

Durian Ice Cream! Both durian and ice cream are among life's greatest pleasures so what's not to like about them? Even more so if you combine them together!

Now available in single-serve tubs (105g), each tub is less than 200 calories so snack away with no worries! They are also egg-free and dairy-free since they are made from soy.

If you have tried Mr Bean's ice cream before, you would have known that they are not too sweet. There is also no artificial durian essence smell.

To describe how it taste like, I would say it's similar to durian snowskin moon cake.

While on the escalator going up to review Sweet.Rex on the second floor of Mei Ling Market & Food Centre, my nose caught a whiff of the lor (braised sauce) from the braised duck stall.

The aroma reminds me of the braised duck from my childhood. It has been a long time since I come across a braised duck that smells this similar to the one in my memory.

Unfortunately, braised duck is not on the agenda for the day so I had to make plans to come back for it some other time.

After I got home that night, I cannot put the smell of the lor out of my mind. I began to google about the stall and came across reviews claiming it to be the best traditional braised duck in Singapore.

I also found out that the stall was from the former Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. Ah, that explains the Makan Places Lost & Found decal I saw pasted on the glass, among several newspaper cuttings.

Update: SweeT.Rex has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

SweeT.Rex is a new hipster dessert stall at Mei Ling Market & Food Centre that specializes in making soufflé pancake.

Located just across from the famous Sin Kee Chicken Rice, their soufflé pancake is selling at 2 for $3 with a choice of one sauce (chocolate/strawberry/caramel).

You heard me right, the stall headed by a young couple is offering their handmade soufflé at a very affordable price!

Rolina Curry Puff @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

I have long heard about Rolina Curry Puff but all this while, I had assumed that it is the name of a Muslim woman selling it.

After some snooping around online, however, I realized the truth was far from it!

On the contrary, the business was started by Uncle Tham, who learnt his craft from a Hainanese sailor when he was 19. To make a living, he began selling his handmade Hainanese curry puffs in front of Novena Church.

And, if you have not already guess by now, Rolina is actually a mispronunciation of the word "Novena" by a customer.

Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

singapore,tanjong pagar plaza market & food centre,food review,blk 6 tanjong pagar plaza,nasi lemak,pandan leaf,pandan leaf nasi lemak,

Update: Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak has permanently closed.

Today, I will be trying out Pandan Leaf Nasi Lemak which is the second nasi lemak stall out of the three located at the Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre. The third stall, called Makan Sutera Nasi Lemak Pandan Rice is closed during this visit.

As it is my first time at this stall, I am clueless about the ordering procedure. I only saw the $3 and $4 pricing pasted on the glass so I told the auntie that I wanted the $4 portion.

She proceeded to ask whether I wanted the chicken wing or chicken drumstick. I opted for the latter.

Then, came the awkward silence.

Spinach & Soup @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

singapore,tanjong pagar plaza market & food centre,food review,blk 6 tanjong pagar plaza,spinach soup,spinach & soup,

I have just stepped into Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre when the skies opened up and a torrent of rain poured down with a roar behind me. Any second later and I would have been drenched from head to toe.

Well, it seems like the perfect morning to have a bowl of soup then. To be precise, let's have spinach soup.

The stall I am visiting is called Spinach & Soup and they have two sets for you to choose from.

Set A comes with spinach, minced pork, prawn, mushroom and wolfberry (goji berry) while Set B had spinach, minced pork, mushroom, wolfberry, century egg and salted egg.

They have recently added a new Set C to the menu which includes spinach, lobster ball, fish tofu, mushroom and wolfberry.

Peter Fried Kway Teow Mee @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

char kway teow, singapore, katong peter fried kway teow mee, tanjong pagar plaza market & food centre,加東炒粿條麵,food review, katong fried kway teow mee,blk 6 tanjong pagar plaza,

Before moving to its current location at Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre, Peter Fried Kway Teow Mee was set up along East Coast Road and apparently quite well-known around the Katong area.

Instead of using normal boiled water to fry their kway teow (flat rice noodle), they used superior broth (brewed by old hen) which is more fragrant in taste.

The stall offers three different styles of fried kway teow namely Teochew, Penang, and Baba Nyonya.

The Teochew-style ($3/$4) that uses black sweet sauce is probably the one that Singaporeans are most familiar with.

The Penang-style ($4/$5), on the other hand, omits the use of black sweet sauce and leans more on the savory side.

As for the Baba Nyonya-style ($4/$5), only a little black sweet sauce is used, imparting the dish with both sweet and savory notes.

Xiang Xiang Nasi Lemak @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

Update: Xiang Xiang Nasi Lemak has permanently closed.

Tanjong Pagar residents must be really ardent fans of nasi lemak because there are actually three non-Halal nasi lemak stalls located on the second floor of the food centre!

The one I visited is called Xiang Xiang Nasi Lemak which is operated by an elderly couple.

During my previous visit, I was sitting right in front of this stall having my lor mee when I noticed the never-ending queue. That aroused my interest to check them out during my next visit.

Soon Heng Food Delights Lor Mee @ Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre

singapore,tanjong pagar plaza market & food centre,food review,blk 6 tanjong pagar plaza,顺兴美食,lor mee,soon heng food delights,

The one and only item that Soon Heng Food Delights sell is lor mee, a noodle dish of Hokkien origins.

The stall, located on the second floor of Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre used to serve two versions: batang lor mee and fried shark lor mee, with reference to the type of fish used.

I have not eaten their batang version before but I guess it is shredded fish meat whereas the shark meat version is fried shark meat nuggets.

Now, only the shark meat version is available on the menu.

While researching for recommendations at this food centre, I came across photos of this lor mee and I was impressed by the presentation and reviews therefore I decided to include this on my to-eat list.

Beo Crescent No Name Hainanese Curry Rice @ Blk 40 Beo Crescent

singapore,beo crescent curry rice,beo crescent hainanese curry rice,tiong bahru,hainanese curry,food review,hainanese curry rice,hainanese pork chop,curry rice,blk 40 beo crescent,

This is my second time having Hainanese curry rice, the first being at Loo's seven years ago.

The stall in question today is a few minutes walk from Tiong Bahru MRT Station, located at an old, run down coffeeshop under Blk 40 Beo Crescent.

This unassuming stall selling Hainanese curry rice does not have a signboard, let alone a name! I suppose that is why people started calling it the "Beo Crescent no name Hainanese curry rice".

Located within the same coffeeshop as the pork chop bun is a noodle stall that sell dry mee sua, fish ball noodle, abalone noodle and bak chor mee.

I have heard nothing but good reviews about their bak chor mee so I decided to try it out. Now, do you understand why I did not order soft-boiled eggs with my pork chop bun?

There is a short queue before me which cleared pretty fast. When it finally reached my turn, I ordered a bowl of bak chor mee kia.

Seng Huat Coffee House - Pork Chop Bun @ Blk 811 Hougang Central

pork bun,piggy bun,singapore,hougang,food review,pork chop bun,成发咖啡屋,seng huat coffee house,blk 811 hougang central,

I have seen this pork chop bun making its rounds on Instagram since a few years back but the thought of going all the way to Seng Huat Coffee House at Hougang is enough to stop me in my tracks.

It was actually after my visit to Sentosa FunFest 2018 when I thought of dropping by Seng Huat Coffee House since it's on the way.

My idea of "on the way" is by taking the North-East Line from Habourfront MRT Station (NE1) to Hougang MRT Station (NE14).

The coffeeshop is conveniently located just right outside Hougang MRT Station opposite Hougang Mall.

Market Street Teochew Kway Teow Mee @ Market Street Interim Hawker Centre

馬吉街潮州粿條面,singapore, market street interim hawker centre, food review, market street teochew kway teow mee, golden shoe hawker centre, capitaspring,

Update: Market Street Teochew Kway Teow Mee has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

A bowl of kway teow soup is what people usually have when they are not feeling well or do not have much of an appetite as it is non-greasy and not so heavy on the stomach.

I, for one, can have kway teow soup anytime of the day because I love soupy stuff; not necessary only when I am sick.

It is my comfort food and my backup plan when I have no idea what to have for my meal at the hawker centre.

Market Street Teochew Kway Teow Mee offers Teochew-styled noodles either dry or soup with your option of noodles like mee pok (flat noodles), mee kia (thin noodles), kway teow (flat rice noodles), macaroni, etc.

Update: 鹏 Tiong Bahru Wanton Mee has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

This is a very promising bowl of wanton mee at Market Street Interim Hawker Centre. Just look at the amount of ingredients in my $3.50 bowl.

The portion of the mee kia is more than half the height of the bowl while char siew, fried wanton and choy sum sits on top. I actually have difficulty finishing the noodles even though what I had was the regular bowl.

The Live Turtle And Tortoise Museum @ The Chinese Garden

masterplan, jurong lake gardens project, singapore, jurong lake district, jurong lake development, live turtle and tortoise museum

Located right inside the Chinese Garden lies Singapore's - and probably the world's - only turtle and tortoise museum. It is a unique, and one-of-a-kind museum, which houses a varied collection of the reptiles including some endangered species on the CITES.

It also holds the Guinness World Record since 2005 for the largest collection of turtle and tortoise items.

Unfortunately for the museum, the site it is sitting on has been incorporated into the masterplan design of the Jurong Lake Gardens project.

This spells nothing but trouble for the 500 turtles and tortoises who have lost their home with nowhere to go.

With a heavy heart, I decided to pay the museum a visit, four days before they are slated to close - permanently.

Update: Ah Liang Ipoh Hor Fun has relocated. The new address has been updated at the bottom of this post.

My first visit to Ah Liang Ipoh Hor Fun was at their Maxwell Food Centre outlet a few weeks ago after an appointment nearby.

I have come across Ah Liang Ipoh Hor Fun during my previous research thus when I happened to stumble across them at Maxwell, I decided to order a plate to try since the lunch crowd has already dispersed with no queue.
