Lao San Prawn Noodles @ 279 Bukit Batok East Ave 3

I am back in the neighborhood of Bukit Batok East Point today, and the plan was to try the mee hoon kway from Gui Hua Ban Mian at Mei De Coffee Shop.

Although there is only one customer in front of me, the lady cooking was taking such a long time that I grew impatient and decided to look elsewhere for alternatives.

Lao San Prawn Noodles from two stalls away happened to catch my attention with its photos of prawn noodles on the signboard.

I promptly switched queue.

The prawn noodle is available in various combinations with pig's intestine, pork ribs, pig's stomach, and pig's tail.

I decided to go basic and ordered the traditional prawn noodles ($4.90) instead.

You can have it either dry or soup with your choice of noodle.

When it comes to prawn noodle, I always opt for yellow noodles in soup.

My bowl of prawn noodle soup come with three halved prawns, some slices of fish cake, bean sprouts and a mound of yellow noodles.

It is also garnished with fried shallots and crispy pork lard.

For the price, the portion is generous enough however, the bowl seems like a tight fit.

This makes stirring the noodles a challenge; I have to do this carefully, so nothing falls over the rim.

The robust broth is sweet and brimming with briny prawn essence but not cloying to the point of feeling jelak. For context, the prawn noodle broth from the stall near my place tastes plain sweet of rock sugar, uses teeny weeny prawns yet charges more expensive than Lao San.

I enjoy slurping up the yellow noodles soaked in the flavorful broth.

Although there is only three halved pieces of prawns, they make up what they lack in number with size. As I did not want to dirty my hands, I ate the prawns with the utensils. However, there is a bit of a struggle as I could not get the prawn meat cleanly off the shell. Not sure if it would made any difference if I had eaten with my hands instead?

I am not sure why Google reviews for this stall are so bad? Sure, the PRC worker could be more customer-oriented but at least, the food is good.
