Each time I accompany my folks to the nearby bank or CPF Building, we would end up having a meal in this coffee shop at blk 132 Jurong Gateway Road.

Although there are a variety of food options to choose from, they will bypass all the other stalls and head straight for the Hakka yong tau foo stall.

I have been here with them a couple of times but yet to try it. I wonder why they only have eyes for this stall?

I decided to make a lone trip here to try it for myself.

The ingredients are reasonably priced at 80¢ per piece. With a minimum of six pieces and your choice of carb, a bowl comes up $5.60 which you can have either dry or in clear soup.

Laksa gravy is available for additional $1.50 top-up although it used to be 60¢ just three years ago.

I picked two meatballs, two pieces of stuffed bitter gourd, one chives dumpling and a piece of tau kee with yellow noodle in soup.

There are two options of stuffed bitter gourd here: fish paste and minced pork.

Deserving of a mention here is their large handmade meatballs. You probably cannot tell from the photo but they are much larger than the average ones.

As for the plump chives dumplings, they fit snugly into the soup spoon. The stall did not scrimp on stuffing the pork and chive mixture into the dumpling skin.

Also, their tau kee is big enough to cover my face!

Apart from the usual sweet sauce and sambal chili, they provide fried shallots, sambal belacan and coriander as well. I do not recall any other yong tau foo stalls offering these.

Now, I can see why the folks are such addicts for I, too am a convert!

The only thing is, they do not offer to refry the deep fried items nor serve them separately from the wet ingredients. Everything just go into the bowl of soup.

But still, that is a small issue.

Amidst the pandemic and ongoing Russia/Ukraine war, costs have inevitably gone up yet, pricing remains competitive. You are still getting your money's worth with the generous portion served.
