Gu Zao Wei Big Prawn Noodle @ Alexandra Village Food Centre

Wei Zhong Qi Prawn Noodle (#01-87) and The Old Stall Hokkien Street Prawn Noodle (#01-58) are two pretty well-known prawn noodle stalls at Alexandra Village Food Centre.

I am not sure if this is a new stall or has it always been there but it was only during a recent visit that I discovered the presence of this third prawn noodle stall at the food centre.

Well, fourth actually, if you consider Ming's Prawn Noodle (#01-01) which has relocated to Tan Boon Liat Building.

It had a very generic name though with just the words "古早味" and "big prawn noodle" on the signboard. (refer to the last photo at the bottom of this post)

I am unable to find any information with regards to this stall online therefore, I took it upon myself and submitted it to Google map as Gu Zao Wei Big Prawn Noodle.

It is located along the same row as Dover Road Kai Kee Wanton Noodles (#01-09) and Tiong Bahru Lien Fa Shui Jing Pau (#01-10) facing the car park.

As it is my first time trying this stall, I decided to go for the basic bowl of prawn noodle dry ($4) with yellow noodle.

The mound of noodle were topped with tender pork slices and five halved slices of prawns. It was garnished with fried shallots. 

I helped myself to the red, cut chili, white pepper and chili powder on the counter.

The meaty prawns are deveined and had their shells peeled which makes for easy eating. They tasted fresh and crunchy.

At first glance, the broth does not have that intense colour nor the reddish hue from the prawn heads however, do not be fooled by the insipid-looking clear broth. 

Despite its color (or the lack of), the flavor is evident with every sip.

The prawn broth from some places can be darker with the crustacean flavor so gao (concentrated) it could get overwhelming. I particularly dislike those that are too heavy-handed with the rock sugar.

This stall's prawn broth is 清甜 so I can comfortably finish the entire bowl to the last drop without feeling sick.

Giving the contents in the bowl a good toss, everything were covered in a slick coat of fragrant oil and aromatic spicy-savory sambal.

I am glad I did not request for extra sambal like I usually do because the heat from the chili is not immediate but kicks in slowly.

Personally, I am contented with this bowl of prawn noodle however, something seems missing.

If only there is crispy fried pork fat! That would be the cherry on the cake!

Apart from the menu above, the stall also serve big prawn noodle ($10) and crayfish noodle ($10) in claypots. 

The stall is managed by this soft-spoken elderly gentleman. I believe he also owns the bak kut teh stall further down the row.

Oh, the stall accepts CDC voucher and digital payment as well.
