Just a slight distance away from 618 Sim Carrot Cake at blk 645 Yishun Street 61, is a coffeeshop with a very popular Malay Muslim stall named Pak Mandor & Family.

The stall sells mee rebuslontong and nasi lemak however, most customers are there mainly for their coconut rice from what I observed.

The queue was not long but it is very slow-moving as some of the customers in front are buying multiple packs to take away.

You can pick your favorite ingredients ala carte but I simply pointed to the photo on the signboard and told the kak kak that I wanted the same combination which came with coconut rice, a fried chicken wing, a fried kuning fish, an omelette and the usual condiments like peanuts, ikan bilis, cucumber and sambal chili.

I thought a combo like this with both fried fish and fried chicken would have cost at least $4 but no, all these cost a mere $3!

The coconut rice come in a alluring shade of green which is cooked to a nice fluffy texture that is neither too dry or mushy. The aromatic rice smells heavenly with a lingering fragrance of coconut milk

It pairs great with the crunchy, yet not too salty ikan bilis and the sambal chili mixed in.

The fried kuning fish is quite generic but what surprises me is the omelette that come with a bit of a thickness instead of being paper-thin!

Fried chicken wing is one of my favorite ingredients to have in nasi lemak but sadly, the one I had is scrawny and the texture on the drier side. The only consolation is the crispy batter that goes crunch with every bite.

Personally, I find the star here is their green rice and their sweet sambal chili. If you ask if I would come again, yes but only if I am in the neighborhood. If only the fried chicken is juicier, and more fleshy.

Anyway, I was second in line to order when a fresh batch of epok epok was delivered by a teenager.

A nenek took over the basket of epok epok and customers (even those not in the queue) began to swarm around her.

Bewildered by the commotion, I followed suit and took one sardine and one kentang which were affordably priced at just 50¢ each. This has got to be the cheapest epok epok I have ever bought considering the size is quite a decent one.

The epok epok had plenty of blisters on it which I find particularly tempting.
