After a visit to Certis Cisco Centre at Paya Lebar, I decided to check out the nearby Geylang East Market & Food Centre for my late breakfast.
Due to it being my first time in this area, I had a bit of trouble locating it.
It doesn't help that I was caught in a heavy downpour that morning. Even though I had with me an umbrella, I was completely drenched.
With the wind threatening to wrench the umbrella out of my hands, I tightened my grip on it with one hand while the other held on to my phone for directions from google map.
I eventually found the food centre behind some shop houses which is almost impossible to spot from the main road. Feeling cold and uncomfortable with wet clothes sticking to my skin, I make a beeline for the shelter, grateful for the respite from the rain.
I have done my due diligence the night before and had a rough idea of what the food centre has to offer. I have my eyes set on the hokkien mee ($4/$5/$6) from Ming Yun Famous Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle.

Seen here is the $5 plate which took slightly over five minutes to be ready.
The stall uses a mixture of thick rice bee hoon with yellow noodles. Ingredients included prawns, pork belly, squid, bean sprouts, chives, egg and crispy pork lard.
My seemingly sauce-less hokkien mee is far from being dry as the noodles have sufficiently absorbed the essence of the stock during the simmering process. (I would still prefer it to be wetter and gloopier though)
The prawns have been de-shelled for you and tasted fresh with a firm bite.
As for the squid, they are in thin strips while the pork belly is so minuscule I could hardly see them. I wish uncle can be more generous with the ingredients. After all, squid rings would have been more aesthetically-pleasing to the eyes than squid strips, don't you think?

The crispy pork lard does not come with the pungent smell of stale oil and adds burst of flavor with every bite. The sambal chili, on the other hand, packs a punch although it is slightly on the saltier side.
The stall also sell mee siam but I think most people go for their hokkien mee instead.
