By the time I am done with my fried Hokkien mee at Geylang East Market & Food Centre, the rain has eased a little but still showed no signs of stopping anytime soon. Now, what do you do when you are stuck at the food centre? Well, you eat some more!

According to my compiled list of the must-eats here, the wanton noodle from Guan Kee Wanton Noodle is another popular choice with the foodies. Being an ardent fan of wanton noodle, I had to order a plate ($3) to try.

On top of the mound of mee kia sits a generous portion of char siew accompanied by chye sim.

The sauce is the kind I like with pork lard oil, chili and perhaps some seasoning sauce. After tasting, I realized there is ketchup too. Rather old school taste.

The texture of the noodle is a little softer than al dente. If only there is a bit more spring to it.

The char siew is the dyed and anorexic type. They are thinly sliced but come in big pieces.

Somehow, I am resigned to the fact that wanton noodles in Singapore are to be paired with this type of char siew.

There are three boiled wantons in the bowl of soup. The wrapper is slightly thick and floury but I have no preference over wanton skin. I welcome all as long they are smooth and slippery.

If memory does not fail me, I remember the soup taste quite homely with the sweetness of ikan bilis.

For me, the wanton noodle is decent but does not impress.

The stall also sell dumpling noodle, shredded chicken noodle and fried wanton noodle.
