Granny's Pancake is a franchise with a number of stalls around Singapore and one of them is located at Ghim Moh Market & Food Centre. Their mee chiang kueh draws a queue whenever I visit the food centre.

In fact, I already noticed them during my first visit. It was about 4pm then when most of the other stalls had already closed for the day. Only a handful of stalls like Granny's Pancake are still opened or just opening for dinner service. I was sitting right in front of their stall having my prawn noodle from Prawn Village.

While enjoying my meal, I noticed students from the nearby school coming in twos and threes to buy their mee chiang kueh. That aroused my interest.

Just like any regular mee chiang kueh stall, the pancakes here come in three traditional flavors such as crushed peanuts, desiccated coconut and red bean paste at 80¢ per slice. There is an option to add peanut butter to your peanut pancake for an additional 20¢ more.

Buying one whole pan (12 slices) is cheaper at only $8 instead of $9.60 (80¢ x 12). The savings translates to getting two free slices when you buy ten pieces.

I ordered one peanut pancake, one peanut pancake with peanut butter and two coconut pancakes.

The peanut pancake with peanut butter have a more savory taste than the one without. The peanut butter is also able to hold in all the crushed peanuts without them falling all over the place. I was half expecting for the peanut butter to be oozing out of the sides but no, that did not happen.

The sugar level in the peanuts and desiccated coconut are not too sweet so it is perfect for those who do not want their pancake too sweet.

Granny's Pancake also come in smaller and thinner slices with not too much filling so if you have a smaller appetite, you will not be stuffed.

Personally, I preferred thicker mee chiang kueh with overflowing filling. Those are more satisfying and shiok to bite into but its just a matter of personal preference.

How about you? Do you like your mee chiang kueh thick or thin?
