This review is from a combination of three visits.

One late afternoon, Dad and I came to Hong Lim Market & Food Centre for lunch and we had the soy sauce chicken noodle from Ji Ji Wanton Noodle Specialist.

It was a choice out of desperation. We had actually come for Tuck Kee Ipoh Sah Hor Fun but it was already closed by the time we were there and so were most of the other stalls.

The few that were opened did not interest us much except Ji Ji. To be honest, it was the braised chicken wings displayed behind the window that caught my attention.

It is our first time eating there but we were already captivated by the taste of the noodles!

That was a long time ago.

For years since then, I have been craving for the soy sauce chicken noodle but have never found the opportunity to come to this part of Chinatown.

Last month, I deliberately made a trip down just to have a bowl.

The soy sauce chicken noodle came with one whole chicken wing (drumlet, mid wing, tip) and one drumlet, some slivers of Chinese mushrooms and green vegetables.

The thicker than usual mee kia was specially manufactured by a supplier.

Eagerly, I mixed everything up and took a bite.

First of all, I loved the homely taste of the braised chicken wings and I think what make their noodles so special is that they added some of the braised sauce to the noodles.

However, the custom-made noodles reminded me of instant noodles which does not appeal to me. I could not finish my noodles that day which is quite rare as I always finish my food.

On hindsight, I recall it was quite humid and I was feeling a little under the weather that day. Was my appetite affected?

I made plans to return another day to try again.

On my third visit, I tried the wanton noodle.

There were three fried wantons and another three boiled ones. Other than the usual char siew, there are also slivers of mushroom.

I noticed the freshness of the minced meat in the wantons but the marinade is a little too strong for my liking (if my memory does not fail me, I think it is the sesame oil). The char siew is all lean meat and nothing too memorable.

Remember the purpose of my third visit which is to ascertain my thoughts regarding the noodles?

Unfortunately, the custom-made noodles failed to impress me once more. I managed to finish the noodles but I did not enjoy it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the noodles but I simply do not like its texture. I will definitely give them a higher rating if they serve the normal mee kia.

Ji Ji also sell prawn dumpling noodle, Ipoh hor fun, chicken feet noodle, chicken cutlet noodle and curry chicken noodle. Everything is priced at $3/$4/$5/$6.

Do give this stall a try and let me know how you think!
