I am done with reviewing the food at Commonwealth Crescent Market & Food Centre but I thought I will give Google photos a final browse just in case I missed out on anything.

And I am glad I did because the photo of a beautiful bowl of Teochew mee pok (flat noodle) caught my attention. It did not look like it came from Huang Da Fu or Hao Hao Noodle House.

I clicked on the photo and it brought me to a Straits Times article about this noodle stall called Bee Yee Teochew Famous Fish Ball Kuay Teow Mee at block 117. Then, it dawned upon me that I have seen that article a long time ago.

That bowl of mee pok with prawn, fish cake, bak chor and pork lard seemed alluring enough for me to want to have a bowl but at that point of time, I still have not figured out how to get to the location thus, the matter was soon forgotten.

According to the Google photos, I recognized the stall is just next to Eng Kee!

Yes, that Eng Kee famed for their fried chicken wings in my previous post! However, when I was at Eng Kee previously, I do not remember seeing Bee Yee there. In its place is a Thai noodle stall instead.

Apparently, Bee Yee has moved out from that coffee shop.

But, fret not.

Bee Yee has simply moved to another coffee shop at the other end of Blk 117. They are now sharing the same coffee shop as Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee Restaurant (香港街老珍記).

On the day of my visit, I ordered a bowl of mee kia with prawn similar to the one I saw in the Google photo. The menu stated the option with prawn is available in $4 and $5. I wanted to order the $4 portion but I was told it is only available for $5.

The mee kia is topped with one prawn, fish cake, bak chor and garnished with spring onions. I began tossing the noodle which is a bit dry hence I spooned in some of the soup to make the tossing easier. The mee kia is al dente and the portion quite substantial. All is good, however, the taste is a little light.

As for the bowl of soup, it contained four fish balls, two meat balls and a piece of fish dumpling. Quite generic stuff, nothing spectacular, I would say.

Presentation wise, my bowl of mee kia seemed promising and it was that photo I saw which got me all excited about Bee Yee. If their noodle sauce is a bit more savory while the texture of the fish ball and meat ball firmer and springier, it would be good.

*By the time this is posted, I have visited Bee Yee for a second time. This round, I opt for the $4 portion without prawn. The dollar difference between the two bowls is just one prawn and one fish ball. Also, I asked for more black vinegar and chili sauce and this time, the noodle is much tastier and satisfying. Regrettably, I did not notice any crispy pork lard at both times.
